Product Description The Sherpani Rumba Superlight child carrier combines fashionable design with an array of performance features. Available in a variety of colors, the Rumba Superlight offers 1500 cubic inches of storage capacity, includes a sunshade/raincover and carries up to 55 pounds. The Rumba Superlight's fully adjustable child seat and five-point harness ensure the safety and comfort of your child. A soft foam chest plate holds your child in place and combats against rubs and hot spots. As your child grows, the height of the child seat adjusts to provide the ideal position for riding in the Rumba Superlight. Built-in adjustable stirrups help to balance weight and give little feet a place to rest which aids in circulation. The Rumba Superlight has a carrying capacity of up to 55 lbs., including child, pack and gear. A lightweight internal framesheet, contoured foam backpanel and single aluminum stay combine to support the weight of the Rumba Superlight and provide flexibility while in use. A fold-out "kickstand" enables the Rumba Superlight to stand securely on its own. NOTE: This feature is not designed to have the Rumba Superlight function as an actual child seat, but it does provide a sturdy base for loading and unloading your child. Dense padding in the lumbar portion of the carrier and perforated foam cushioning in the shoulder pads and hipbelt combine to offer increased support and comfort. A sliding, sternum strap and load-lifter straps further enhance fit and aid in load distribution. A large pocket tucked underneath the Rumba Superlight's child seat provides a large storage location for diapers, clothes or gear. An elastic, mesh front pocket offers a quick and convenient space for stashing food or extra layers of clothing. The hipbelt even has a dedicated pocket for your cell phone. A detachable sunscreen/raincover is included to protect your child from glare, UV rays and precipitation. Rumba Superlight is available in your choice of color options.

| Customer Reviews: Great Lightweight Pack May 14, 2010 Caleb Callahan (Norwalk, CT USA)
I give this pack 5 stars because it does what it needs to do well. The harness and straps have kept my child comfortable and not cranky for hours in the pack. The harness system seems to keep her weight from well distributed. The other great thing about this pack is the foot straps -- although they are a bit of a pain and I don't use them for shorter excursions, they allow my daughter to use them for leverage to bounce/readjust a little bit -- between the foot straps and the harness I believe that is what keeps her from getting too uncomfortable sitting in the pack.
Wearing the pack:
There were no instructions on how to wear it and where it should sit, so after a lot of trial and error I found the most comfortable way to get it adjusted is the following:
> Put the kid in the pack and tighten it all up
> Get the pack up and on the shoulders -- since there is the 5 point harness you don't need to worry that the child will fall out if the pack goes a little sideways getting it on
> Tighten the shoulder straps really high
> Tighten the waist strap nice and tight and the shoulder strap clip
> Then, loosen the shoulder straps so no direct weight is on your shoulders (all on your hips)
Ultimately, the shoulder straps should be used to keep the pack in place, not to bear weight. With that adjustment you can go hours in the pack comfortably with a 30lb kid (at least the pack will be comfortable but I can't speak for your legs getting tired).
Now the cons you should know:
The biggest drawback I have found is there are no usable pockets or clips that I can reach with the backpack on. I would love to be able to have access to some snacks or water or a camera pocket without taking the pack off to get to the back pocket. This is probably something you lose with the lightweight version. The little pockets in the waist strap are all but useless except for maybe your keys or a super small camera, but even then it is hard to get things in and out of them with the straps cinched.
I have not tried other packs so I don't have a comparison. I don't plan to try any others after using this pack.
Comfortable and light weight! October 23, 2009 mammacita I love this carrier for one basic reason- it's lightweight!!! I can get it on easily when I am home alone. My husband sports in when we go on trails or to festivals in the city. I have loaned this to several friends and they have realized why this was my first choice. The five point harness is such a bonus for extra safety. We use the sunshade protection nearly every time we use this. I love that feature, happier kid= happier mom! :)
love it super light weight October 3, 2009 Teresa M. Jones-wilson 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a very lightweight carrier and is great for walks. I put the baby on my back and the dog's leash in my hand and off we go. It does take some time to get everything adjusted just right to not hurt your back but once you do it is great. My son loves it and sings along as we go. It does also take some time to get the hang of "loading" the baby. I put him on our top step and load from below and can get him on my back with only minor tilting and he is fine with it.
Mostly nice but missing a few key features June 15, 2009 N. Potter 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Overall a good pack with many nice features, including under-seat storage, stirrups, small zipper pockets for things like keys, wallet, etc, and rain/sun covers. Unfortunately, there are a few key features that didn't thrill me, including low-end padding on the shoulder straps (so it starts to hurt after a while), no across-the-chest buckle for the child restraints so our son could easily wiggle out of the shoulder straps and lean over fall enough to fall out of the pack (he's 8 months), and the child seat-height adjustment strap tensioner wouldn't hold tension so the seat height couldn't be adjusted (we had to send it in for a repair on Day 1). I think it's going to work OK for short day hikes or zoo trips, etc, but if we were going to be doing serious backpacking I would consider a higher-end model with better padding.
Excellent Backpack! December 16, 2008 S. Massengill (Misawa, Japan) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
We recently purchased this backpack for a trip to Beijing, China with our 16 month old. My son loved being carried in it. He looked and seemed more comfortable than in other carriers we've had in the past. My husband even carried our son in this backpack up The Great Wall! I was also pleasantly surprised how much storage room was in the backpack. Plenty of room for extra clothes, blankets, toys, and our son's food for the day. Excellent quality for the price. I highly recommend this product.
