I'm pleased with this product. It's relatively easy to get the child in and out, it's comfortable for both wearer and the child, and the backpack has PLENTY of space for me to pack some diapers, wipes, a change of clothes for each child, my wallet, phone, and camera, and a small lunchbag. I'm currently using it with a 15 month old on walks and trips and even on public transportation. Much easier then taking a single or double stroller.

He tends to fuss when I first try to put him in, but once he's in it and on my back he's very comfortable and happy. He sat in it for over an hour today while the three of us (me, him in the pack, and his 3 year old brother walking) went for a walk to the library and back. The library is 3/4 of a mile away, and he was very content to sit and look at the scenery.

It's nice that it gives the child a view other then your back, and they have their own "space" so they are not pressed right up against you. They can move, play with some toys (toy loops are included) or you can attempt to latch a sippy cup to the toy loops so they can have a drink without sending the cup sailing into the street or onto other people. Also, I can reach back and access the cupholders. Nice when you're walking and everyone needs a drink.

Some negatives - as someone else commented if the child gets sleepy they will end up doing the head-bob, and if they fall asleep they will end up uncomfortably sagging in one direction or another.

No accessible front pocket for holding keys or your phone. You'll have to keep those things in your pocket, or use some other system with the carrier. Also, in order to access the contents of the backpack you'll obviously have to remove the backpack. The child can remain in the pack, but you'll have to set them against a firm surface and keep a hand on them so that they don't tip over.

Some tips:

Be careful not to overpack, as the maximum weight for this carrier is 30 pounds total (child and gear). Newer models have a maximum weight of 40 pounds.

When putting a child in the pack, I set it on a couch, using pillows to help support it. Also, pack it beforehand as the weight will help keep it upright (and it's difficult to pack it up with a squirmy child in it).

You'll have to play with the adjustment of the straps. Adjust it on yourself first, then your child. It took some playing around with to get us to be both comfortable and snug. Make sure the waist belt is tight and snug, as that will support the majority of the weight and you'll have less weight on your shoulders.

It's not for long extended trips or hardcore backpacking. It is more suitable for day trips, trips to the fair or market, walks, etc.

I'm only 5 feet tall, but felt comfortable wearing this carrier. Unlike newer models, this model does NOT have torso adjustment which could make fitting tricky for people who are extremely tall or extremely short. Also, I felt comfortable with the little one on my back in the Kelty and could move freely and even pick up his brother (who is petite like me, but still a 3 year old). This came in handy when his brother got tired of walking and needed a short break. I wouldn't recommend doing this if you're not strong enough though, for obvious reasons. Just saying that I felt comfortable doing so, and I didn't feel that it jeopardized the safety of the littler one.

Honestly, I don't think this model is made anymore as it's been replaced by newer models. But, if you happen to find it used or on sale from some outlet (as I did) hopefully this review helps.

4 out of 5 stars Works great!   July 28, 2010

I bought this backpack for short trips to stores with space for only one child in the cart. I have twin 17 month old boys who are around 20-22 lbs. They love riding in the backpack and it is pretty comfortable for me. I often have to go everywhere with the twins so it helps(like having an extra set of arms). The storage compartment is just the right size for short trips, enough room for extra diapers, wipes, clothes, sunscreen, hats, etc. I mainly use it for the store, but we have also used it for walks, and anytime I need to go somewhere and be hands free. Shoulders do get tired after a long walk. Wish I would have bought one more for my husband! Fantastic for the price on Amazon!

My son loves this carrier. It's so comfy that he's often asleep in it. The only drawback is that there is no support for his head when he's sleeping.

Very carefully designed and ideal for short trips. I was not sure about this product when I bought this and I have been very satisfied with this. There is a lot of space for small things like wallet, bottles, socks and stuff. [The compartments are on the other side though] The view that baby gets is amazing and the support is very good.

When your partner takes over the baby, the carrier does not feel bulky. I wish there was more space for the baby though and the carrier be more flexible to accommodate big babies too.

Not for long trips, unless you take turns, else you ll end up with sore shoulders.

As the baby grows in length, I have been skeptical in using this carrier and you cannot afford to take risks. This models is more ideal for babies over 2 years [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LDJG1O?ie=UTF8&tag=mama0f-20&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001LDJG1O]

Also need more width in the torso for easy use for ones with a big belly.
