Product Description Sized to fit dogs 35-65 lbs.
Amazon.com Product Description There's no better way to spend a weekend than hiking with your dog, but it can get a little tiresome hauling gear for both you and Cosmo. Fortunately, now your pooch can carry his own food, water, and toys--and some of your gear as well--with this Mountainsmith dog pack. Available in three sizes, the pack is outfitted with an independently adjustable fleece-lined chest harness that fits most breeds comfortably, so your dog will barely notice the pack while walking or running. In addition, the pack offers plenty of storage space, with two large main compartments, zippered side pockets with rain flaps, and an internal valuables pocket. And thanks to the pack's D-ring attachment point, you can attach the leash directly to the pack for easier hiking. As a result, the Mountainsmith dog pack is perfect for everything from all-day and overnight outings to extended trips into town. Other features include a single haul handle on top of the pack, a mesh pocket along the top for stashing the leash, compression straps, and reflective trim.

Great Intro Pack! June 21, 2010 K w/Dogs This is our first pack for our german shepherd. He is about 26" at the shoulder and 80 lbs. We ordered a medium and it fits great! We take it with us hiking at different state parks. It holds a good amount of stuff (for a dog pack), easy to get on and off. You can't beat the price especially if you are just getting started and don't want to spend over $100 on a dog pack.
Dog Pack May 29, 2010 L. Huffman This pack doesn't quite fit my dog's dimensions, but nevertheless, it works. I have a 55 lb lean and long pit-shepherd (we think) and if I make the first strap (closest to neck) too tight it brings it closer over his shoulders but makes the other straps rub. I have found a combination that seems to work, but the two bottom straps will never be able to be adjusted snuggly. I am still satisfied, though, since it doesn't come off and I've found an adjustment combination that rubs the least. So- it works.
As far as construction and amenities, I like the bungees it comes with and he pockets are big enough for whatever weight combination I should need and the zippers seem to be very durable.
I've had this pack and have been using it for at least a month.
Not a good design May 28, 2010 M. Gelman (San Francisco, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product is built well and might last a while, but it was not a good fit for my 62 pound labrador mix. I found him bleeding under his underarms every time he wore his backpack. I even when to a pet store to see if they could adjust it for me. They did, but it still didn't work.
great, quality pack for dogs May 22, 2010 K. MCCABE (Kansas City, MO USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really love this bag. One of the reasons I ordered it is because of my previous experience with Mountainsmith. I have two of their other packs (a lumbar pack and a larger pack that I used when I studied abroad). They are made well and and very durable -- something I was looking for in a dog pack.
And I agree with a lot of the other reviewers. Order the size smaller than you think you'll need. I got a small for my Aussie mix dog. She is about 44 pounds. The pack can hold a lot of things, but if you have a big water bottle (mine is a 27 ounce bottle), it doesn't really fit well. I guess I will just have to use a smaller bottle.
I wish there was a small zipped compartment on the outside for a phone that was waterproof. It's kind of annoying to have to go to the inner pocket if your phone is ringing. And like a lot of the other reviewers, I wish there was more support on the straps, as opposed to the material that just covers the straps. Although, my dog never seems to mind having it on. She gets excited when I go to put it on her.
Overall, this is a great buy for the money. Mountainsmith really makes quality products.
Runner? Hiker? Great dog backpack May 21, 2010 Micheal P. Kloppel (Rochester, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a 90LB German Shepard who I run with 4-6 times a week and I was sick of carrying his water and other items. This backpack fits wonderfully on him and he (oddly) seems to enjoy it if you can believe this, the day I got it I pulled it out and told him to sit, he did so, and he allowed me to put it on him like any other harness, he didnt struggle or try to remove it in any way.
He is quiet huge and for this reason I purchased the medium sized backpack, the sizing for this item is correct if you ask me since its not often that a GS is considered the largest breed like a mastiff or something else.
One pocket has a smaller zippered pocket on the inside. On top is a yellow stretchy pull string for carrying loose items and on either side there are straps for more loose items. The top notch for attacking a leash is not durable and I would NOT use it for this purpose since its made of plastic but this could be easily fixed by replacing it with a good quality Carabiner or metal hoop purchased at home depot, which I plan to do.
My dog is has wonderful stamina and endurance since I run with him 4-6 times a week all year round in blazing hot weather and freezing cold and so the backpack is barely a burden on him although I think he does find it odd when getting in cars and running near trees since he often smashes the sides of bag into them. But besides this nuisance he doesn't even seem to notice its there.
my recommendation:
If you want a backpack BUY THIS ONE!
