Didn't hold up September 7, 2010 Just Jon (Chicago, IL) I got this pack as a spiff from my company just under two years ago. I use the minipocket in the top rear to hold small personal items (workout accessories, spare change, etc.) and am in & out of it many times a day. Three months ago the zipper started to give out, and now it's torn free of its stitching in two places. The rest of the pack's held up pretty well.
Just buy it, even if you think you have a nice one now July 9, 2010 Raj K. Deol (Stamford, CT) I do the weekly NYC to DC and back weekend trip. I have had JanSport, LogicCase and some other backpack during the past 5 years. I "upgraded" to OGIO Mastermind and I tell you -- my first trip back from DC to NYC was heavenly. I was able to take all my toys with me...and I will give you a breakdown of what all I carried in it on my trip:
1. 16" Dell Laptop easily accessed via an outer pocket on the back (by the straps)
2. All kinds of stuff in the main zip pocket (which is large): pill containers, sunglass case, DVD boxes, newspaper, etc etc == you could easily put an extra pair of pants and a shirt in this pocket if you don't have crap like me.
3. In the lined-zipper audio pocket (seals out water): PSP, iPod, 2 Senheiser earplug phones, PSP game disc carrier with 10 game discs
4. Palm Pre in one phone pocket and my work Blackberry in the other phone pocket
5. In the folders pocket: Sony DVP FX-950 portable DVD Player; Kindle
6. In the outermost pocket: US Passport behind the zip sleeve; coins, keys and RSA card for office VPN in the zip sleeve; 2 extra watches and a Canon point and shoot camera in front of the zip sleeve
7. In the lower corner pockets: Batteries and chargers galore -- all for the devices and phones above made it in
Pretty amazing, when I carry the backpack, it is effortlessly light and comfortable. Easily the best backpack I have EVER owned.
I use my LogicCase one for my Nikon SLR body and 3 lenses. It is a light second carrier along with the OGIO. Just buy it, already.
The nicest bag I've ever owned... May 25, 2010 A. Strader After using a basic $20 Jansport backpack for over a decade, I switched over to the OGIO when I received one at work. What a revelation! Aside from the differences in a decade old backpack to this modern unit, the comfort level of carrying a full load makes all the difference in the world between the two.
The shoulder straps are padded with layers of mesh and foam to allow more air into the straps, meaning less sweaty straps after a long day's use. The shoulder straps have an additional chest level buckle for keeping straps even and heavy loads more balanced when maneuvering or walking all day.
The back is also padded to allow for shock absorption for the laptop compartment and to allow your back some level of comfort when walking around all day long.
The backpack has multiple compartments and several compartments inside of compartments. The front pocket has room to securely hold keys on a plastic clip, a small velcro pouch for holding loose belongings or change and a back compartment for small loose items you want to keep private (passports, money clip). The second compartment is what I would normally consider the pencil pocket. This is a divided compartment, clearly meant to hold several objects of larger size than the front pocket. About large enough to comfortably hold a DVD case in height. There are dividers but they are not pockets and anything put into the dividers that is not meant to stand up will fall below the dividers and have you wondering if you misplaced your item. For flat stackable items, or folded paper documents, this is a convenient place to store your maps or walking directions.
The next compartment is the main compartment. One of the roomiest areas I've ever seen in a daily use bag. Was able to hold a complete set of clothes for 3 days and my medical kit without any straining or pushing. With two compartments and a double padded laptop compartment on both sides of the main compartment, anything stored in here is secure and safe as it possibly can be.
The laptop compartment is sized to accommodate a 17" laptop, but not much else. Power cords and USB cables are obviously meant to be stored in other compartments of the laptop. Padded on both sides, this provides a similar level of shock absorption as any normal softsided laptop case. This will not be shock proof by anymeans, especially since it's a backpack, so take it off when you're about to do something physical and you're keeping your laptop in there.
Pockets are all over this thing. As previously mentioned, there's a back pocket in the coin purse compartment, a second smaller pocket behind the outside of the coin purse to hold tickets or travel documents, two small teardrop shaped compartments on the left and right sides hold small travel size bottles of suntan lotion or bug spray handily. There are two slightly larger pouches above each of these that were just large enough to hold my prescription lenses case when I wasn't wearing my glasses. The downside of these pouches are that the zippers open from the bottom sliding up. Opposite of what you would expect. There is a final water resistant, lined pocket at the top of the backpack meant to hold cell phones or MP3 players. There is a small hole in the front of the pocket to allow for headphones to pass through.
Over all I like this backpack a lot, it's really comfortable, it was easy to use, was very distinguishable in travel by appearing to be a backpack for someone who knows how to travel comfortably. This bag will see regular use in walking to the grocery store instead of carrying handfuls of tote bags as I can carry a WHOLE LOT MORE.
Excellent quality computer backpack April 15, 2010 Stephen 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Very nice styling and good construction. Shoulder straps are well padded and comfortable. Lots of zippered external pockets for organizing everything. This bag is larger than the Ogio Metro and can certainly hold more, but the Metro is more space efficient and easier to travel with. Both are excellent choices.
GREAT! February 11, 2010 Aimee Garbarino 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
